Bitkom: Germans see majority opportunities in artificial intelligence

The people in germany take the most of the use of artificial intelligence (ki) as an opportunity. According to a representative survey of the federal association of information management, telecommunications and new media (bitkom), this see 68 percent of the respondents so, about 54 percent thinking that ki will bring in the next five years of laceable changes in society. About 29 percent of artificial intelligence as dangerous. In a similar study of 2017, only 48 percent ki had seen as a chance, in 2018 it was already 62 percent.

"Who is better informed, also sees the chances of artificial intelligence", says the prasident of bitkom, achim mountain, with a view of the survey results of the study. Accordingly, 45 percent of respondents say that they have been knowing what was under ki and ki could also explain. 28 percent to know what ki means, 7 percent were even designated as experts. In contrast, 16 percent, which do not know exactly what artificial intelligence is.

Increased acceptance, skepticism remains

With stronger knowledge about ki, the bitkom study also increases the acceptance in different areas of life. For example, 75 percent of the respondents mainly use a stronger use of ki in the care to better overwake the health of nursing-friendly old people. Also in offers and organ (73 percent), in medicine (67 percent) and in the security area (66 percent) and sports (61 percent) you want a stronger use of ki. This also applies to the transport system (58 percent), in education (55 percent), in personnel departments / customer service (54 percent) and in saucing transport (52 percent), for example in autonomous vehicles.

However, the acceptance falls lower in certain areas. This applies, for example, for political decisions (50 percent), at the militar (48 percent) or the care of toddlers (38 percent). Berg sees the desire for more ki especially in the areas of life in which people see a higher personal benefit and significant potential for improvement.

Even if the acceptance of ki has increased the bitkom survey, however, skepticism remains. Especially in everyday work people do not want a ki. 73 percent of the respondents fledged that ki could then control them, 65 percent think that ki destroys workplaces. On the other hand, however, 45 percent ki look at work as aid, for example, by avoiding the ki-use errors and to take boring works from a ki.

Ki in the car and medicine

Autonomous vehicles that can make self-standing decisions with artificial intelligence, the respondents are rather skeptical against opposite. Thus, only 36 percent keep it possible for robo cars to avoid heavy inflation and traffic. A majority of 57 percent even ames that instead, the number of heavy inflates will rise with dead. Berg sees the reason for this point of view that repeatedly reports on unfalle with self-propelled cars in the test phase, which had set itself in the kopf.

A rough benefit of ki see the respondents in the medical field: 60 percent of the survey participants believe that artificial intelligence drives medical research in the next ten years. 46 percent think that artificial intelligence can help avoid diseases due to behavioral information. Also in the development of individual therapies (42 percent) and the support of doctors in routine tasks (40 percent), such as the analysis of rontgen images, ki was able to be useful. However, the life expectancy in the next ten years improves by the use of ki, however, only 20 percent think. Just as little, a majority ames that a ki replace a doctor (8 percent) and a ki better diagnosis can (13 percent).

Important for prosperity

Artificial intelligence has the results according to the burger one "outstanding meaning" for "economy and prosperity". 66 percent see in their effort for the german economy. Accordingly, 75 percent of respondents demand that germany should take a global wiring role in the area of ki. At the same time muse ki but be sure. 85 percent therefore want a particularly basic examination of ki systems and a permit. 44 percent believe that certain ki applications had to be prohibited.

For the ki study, bitkom research for bitkom has interviewed a total of 1004 people from 16 years in germany in a representative survey by phone.
